Mountain Bike Fruita | Sneak Peek

I’m currently on a kick ass mountain biking vacation with friends in Fruita, CO and Moab, UT.  You’ll have to wait til later for the full write-up but here’s a sneak peek to hold you over.  Just know this: mountain bike Fruita is awesome.

Best Adventure Photogrpahy of 2013 | A Year in Review

Although winter seems to have forsaken us all, I am hopeful it will return with feet and feet of snow.  While I spend most of my days right now pining and moaning over the lack of fresh pow, or really, any pow at all, this was at least a nice little reminder that the snow was here before and that, most importantly, it will come back.

I’m pretty jazzed to announce that I’m a contributing photographer to Ski Lake Tahoe for the 2012-13 season.   This means that starting in the 2013-14 season you might see some of the photos I took for them on their website, facebook page, or blog.   Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll be like LOOK THERE’S MY PHOTO if one ever shows up somewhere and I know, a whole year is an awfully long time to wait but wait we shall.  In the meantime, peek at these images, which I consider to be some of my best adventure photography of 2013.  Accompanying my favorite ski and snowboard photos is a handful of images from the Tahoe Kids Tri and Fun Runs Series, all of which make me smile.

Race the Lake of the Sky: Tahoe SUP Fest

Last year, Lakeview Commons hosted Tahoe’s first ever international SUP competition.  The event featured two days of individual races and team relay events under the gorgeous blue skys of Lake Tahoe.  This year, Race the Lake of the Sky returns with numerous events, including instructional clinics by world class paddlers Candace Appleby and Anthony Vela, as well as various race events including short course, long distance, team relay, grom races and the new SUP Cross Sprint course!  You can demo paddle boards from a variety of companies and there will be vendors, food booths, and music on site.

I attended and can say with confidence that even if you aren’t a SUP’er, you’ll enjoy sitting in the sun and watching the festivities.  It’s a great way to spend time on the beach with your family and enjoy the gorgeous views that Lake Tahoe has to offer.

More information on the event can be found via their facebook page and website.

Race the Lake of the Sky will be held on June 29-30, 2013 at Lakeview Commons at the Corner of Hwy 50 and Lakeview Ave.  There is limited street parking available on site but tons of parking just across the street at the SLT Parks and Recreation Department on Rufus Allen Blvd.

High Roller Terrain Park

I have a lot of really amazing friends that also happen to be really amazing athletes.

They do things like throw themselves off jumps with 100 foot gaps and launch themselves out of giant halfpipes.

I took photos of them at Heavenly Mountain the other doing just this sort of thing and I’m really happy with the photos we got.  It was such a fun time and I can’t wait to go back and do it again!

Big thanks to JJ Shiller, Doug “Dougie Fresh” Carr, Tele Doug, Extreme, and Trout for going big.

Vote for me!

Hey there!

I’m having a blast at Outdoor Retailer.  It really is a giant party, with a lot of work smashed into a few hectic daytime hours.  I’ll talk all about it when I get home next week.

Until then, head over to facebook via this link and vote for my photo to win the Best of the Lake photo contest.

I’m one of ten finalists and if I win, Buddy and I will get to have a romantic weekend stay at the Park Tahoe Inn, ski at Sierra-at-Tahoe together, get cross-country ski rentals at Camp Richardson, eat dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe and a cruise to Emerald Bay from Lake Tahoe Cruises!

Becker Peak

Megs and I are on a mission to get as many awesome photos as we can this year.  We went out twice last week to work on our mutual goal, first to Kirkwood for some sidecountry pow shots, and then again to Becker Peak.

We have collectively decided that Becker Peak will be our new playground: it is ideally situated for easy and quick access over Echo Lakes.  There are tons of huge boulders to play on with a great vantage point of both Tahoe and Desolation Wilderness.  It’s a super short easy hike in (great for me when I’m carrying a snowboard and camera gear) and has tons of steep aspects, pillow lines and drops to get photos on.  It was a bit windy the morning we were out but it was a good scouting session for future photo shoots.

Winter Pow

On Sunday I met up with Megan and Tim early at Kirkwood for a morning photo shoot. I haven’t had time to edit them all yet, but here’s one from the selection that I’m pretty pumped on.
