Alameda Engagement Session | Lauren + Tim

These two.  I’m so happy they found me and I cannot wait for their West Shore Cafe wedding next March.  Lauren grew up in Texas so I feel right at home with her.  She’s as comfortable in cowboy boots as she is in a dress.  They both love day drinking and specifically, wine.  They believe in the power of breakfast (and possibly even second breakfast) but we didn’t cover that.  Clearly, we are meant to be best friends forever.

They have a fabulous house in Oakland that I adore and for their engagement session, of which, I shall note, Tim emphatically did not want to participate in, we decided to run around to some of their favorite picturesque neighborhood haunts that also involve wine.  Lake Merritt was the perfect spot to start in: one could definitely waste spend away the entire day drinking on the deck of The Lake Chalet.  Next stop up was their local winery.  Lauren and Tim are founding members of the wine club and I have to say the Zin I tried was excellent.

In the end, we ended up with an awesome batch of photos for their session and a super wonderful afternoon.  I couldn’t have asked for a better couple to enjoy my afternoon and evening with!

San Jose Wedding Photographer | Bella Montagna | Published at Borrowed & Blue

Holy Moly Borrowed & Blue – you might be my favorite folks in the world this week.  I’m feeling warm and fuzzy from all the internet love this fantastic localized wedding blog is giving me.  After being published already this week in the Lake Tahoe edition of Borrowed & Blue for Julie and Michael’s Riva Grill wedding, I’m now up in San Francisco as well for Chris and Brittany’s San Jose wedding at Bella Montagna.

It was so fantastic to relive this gorgeous star filled night for Brittany and Chris’s San Jose wedding.  With help from Jenny Swigart as coordinator and the Magnolia Jazz Band setting the ambiance for the evening, Brittany and Chris and their families danced the night away in one of the most stunning venues I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph at.   Hint hint: how about someone else hire me to be their San Jose Wedding Photographer again at Bella Montagna?  That place is simply stunning.

Follow this link to see Brittany and Chris featured on Borrowed & Blue San Francisco.

You can also follow Borrowed and Blue on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Brittany and Chris were wed under a starry night, with jazz wafting through the air, overlooking the twinkling building lights of San Jose.  Bella Montagna is a stunning estate to be wed at: ceremonies and receptions are held on a wide grassy lawn overlooking terraced grape vines and all of San Jose.  As night falls and the city comes to life, the view is breathtaking, not to mention the bokeh in the photos!

Chris and Brittany have more to celebrate than just their nuptials: Brittany is starting a PHD program at Yale this fall and Chris just took the Connecticut Bar Exam.  Brittany was every bit the radiant bride.  Her smile is gorgeous and infectious and every time I turned around, she was grinning in the most beautiful of ways.  Her family is equally infectious: despite the subdued nature of the event, they had great cause to celebrate and celebrate they did.

I loved spending the evening under the stars with jazz, Brittany, Chris and their friends and family.  Congratulations to the newlyweds!  Their wedding was gorgeous and the location was awesome.  I’d love to return to Bella Montagna to photograph another San Jose wedding!

Berkeley Wedding Photographer | SSquared Day 3

The third and final day of Sarah and Suman’s amazing three day celebration of their 10th year Anniversary culminated in the formalization of their union at Cesar’s, a delightfully intimate Spanish style tapas bar in the “Gourmet Ghetto” of Berkeley.  Officiated by Sarah’s sister, the ceremony was simple and peppered with readings by family members, toasts from friends, and a heartfelt and tearful speech from Sarah thanking everyone for their presence.

Cesar’s presented an amazing array of appetizers and dishes and loaded wine glasses with sangria and my personal favorite, a nice dry rosé.  I personally can’t imagine a better way to celebrate the union of two people who are so committed, at ease and loving than the way these two chose.  After three days in their presence, I felt inspired and challenged by the grace, love and respect that was ever present in their relationship.

Sarah and Suman, thank you so much for the honor you bestowed upon me when you chose me as your Berkeley Wedding Photographer.  It really was the best wedding ever.

Congratulations and may you have a lifetime of nerding out, wine drinking and laughter together.

Only self professed nerds would hire a professional trivia company for their wedding festivities and force their family and friends to play.  Reluctant at first, the motley crew of folks broke into teams and before long were arguing over answers with conviction, jeering at their competition and cheering at personal victories.  If I ever have a not-wedding, I’m totally having a trivia night.  #stealingthis

The 2nd night of festivities for SSquared’s weekend extravaganza featured an unbelievable meal at Angeline’s Louisiana Kitchen, which took me right back to my favorite city in the world.  I was overjoyed to see they had Abita Amber!  Even better, each of the tables in the venue that evening where named after some of my favorite author’s and each place setting came with a bookmark.

The evening was filled with laughter, hilarious #hashtag themed toasts and ridiculous amounts of fun.

The first time I spoke to Sarah, I felt totally at ease with her.

You see, Sarah and her husband to be, Suman, had been together for 10 years.  There was no doubt in their minds, she explained, that they were committed to a lifetime together but they had seen no reason to formalize it.  I get that.

So when Sarah told me the story of her relationship, their history and her wonderfully fun and totally informal wedding plans, I was sold.

It was the Best. Wedding. Ever.

Here is a little bit of info about this couple and their totally informal, off the beaten path three day extravaganza that they called their wedding.  Fist off, the whole weekend was a huge party of the best kind.  They had their own twitter handle.  Their friends and family are not only hilarious, but insanely intelligent.  They love wine as much as I do.  They are self-depreciating, sarcastic and witty.  They hosted a trivia night.  SERIOUSLY.  Even better, the trivia night involved a New Orleans themed restaurant.  Stop my beating heart.  By the end of the weekend, I felt like a guest.

I loved every minute of this wedding weekend and every one of their family members.  I’m sad I don’t get to hang out with them all the time.  I feel so honored they choose me as their Berkeley Wedding Photographer.  I am super excited to share the photos from the weekend and in the same fashion as the weekend, I’ll break it up into the three days of events.

So, without further adieu, I present to you SSquared Day 1: a gorgeous celebration and party at the Berkeley Alumni House on the UC campus with unbelievable food from Bistro Liason, a Lauren Lindley photo booth, a “This is Your Life” retelling by Sarah and Suman that introduced each and every person in the room and their relationship to the couple and ultimately, a dance party so epic thanks to DJ Wayne that I couldn’t bear to leave when my contracted time was up.

The only thing I don’t like about this amazing kick ass backyard pig roast BBQ wedding reception is that I didn’t throw it myself.  From the decorations, to the tunes, to the food, to the guests, it was just the greatest party ever and I am not exaggerating.

When you hear the groom exclaim, “This is the coolest vibe!” you can’t help but love where you are at and who you are with.

When family members take you around and point out who everyone is and why they are awesome, you can’t help but feel welcomed.

When the whole party erupts into dance mode after dinner, you know that I feel at home.

Thank you again, Jeff and Eva, for choosing me as your Marin Wedding Photographer.

Let’s do it all over again!

This backyard wedding celebration involved a pig roast, a tres leches cake, the greatest vibe ever, and two of the raddest people I’ve ever met.  I want this couple, their friends and all of their family to be my best friends.  I’m so thrilled they choose me to be their Marin wedding photographer and I can’t wait to share more images with you!
