what to wear in your family portrait

Tahoe Family Photos | LTCC Demonstration Garden | Poth Family

Last fall, shortly before their second daughter was set to be born, my friends the Poth family hired me to celebrate their growing family with some Tahoe family photos.  We met early in the morning at the LTCC Demonstration Garden, when their spitfire of a child Zada would feel extra sparky and accommodating.

Since then, their family has grown to include their new daughter Ayah, but not without quite the journey.  Baby Ayah was born premature, blind, and with holes in her heart.  She is a little fighter and this family has been air-evaced back and forth across the Western US for more surgeries, hospital stays and emergencies than any one family should endure.  They are doing well and trying to be as normal as a family can be under the circumstances they are in.

If you are interested, you can donate to Ayah’s Go Fund Me.  In addition, the Poth family urges you to donate blood.  Donated blood is one of the only reasons Ayah is still here today.  Get information on donating blood in your area here.  If you are a Lake Tahoe resident, there is a blood drive in our area on May 23rd and you can register to donate here.

If you are not a member of a medical flight network, especially if you participate in any sort of sport, then both myself and the Poth family urge you to join one.  Our local networks for the Reno Tahoe area is AirMedCare.

The Poth family also requests that you contribute to medical and scientific research.  It saves lives.

Chateau Winter Wedding

Chateau Winter Wedding | Incline Village, NV | Lisa + Jeff

Any couple who has It’s Its instead of cake is cool in my book, literally and figuratively.

I know Lisa and Jeff because of Lisa’s sister in law, who has been a good friend and client of mine for many years. I’ve watched Lisa’s nephew, Jack, grow up over the years. I think I was supposed to be taking photos of Lisa and Jeff’s wedding but what I was really doing was taking photos of Jack.  His cuteness is irrefutable.

Lisa and Jeff, I’ll always be the fifth wheel on dinner dates with you and the fam.  I know y’all are going to have a lifetime of happiness together purely based on the simplicity, genuineness and care put into your wedding day.  Weddings that are about spending time with the ones closest to you, and not about burlap, have a special loving place in my heart and I’m so honored to have been part of yours.

May your lives be filled with whiskey, wine and laughter.

Tahoe Senior Portraits

Tahoe Senior Session | Allison

Golden hour is famed for it’s warmth and possibility, named so for the warm amber hue that happens when the sun is diffused in just the right way, before sunset.  Sometimes, it seems extra magical and things just fall into place exactly the right way.  Allison was on vacation with her family from Fort Worth, TX and really wanted to take advantage of being in a far away locale for her senior portraits so that she didn’t have the same images and locations that all of her friends had.  Her family booked me for two hours so we had a ton of time to romp through both the woods and the beach to give Allison all the varied backdrops she was seeking.  I took a gamble and had my good friend Jenay at Lake Tahoe Yoga show off a new meadow to me that I didn’t know existed.  The hunt paid off and Jenay hit the nail on the head with her location scouting: those woods were magical.  So magical that even she didn’t believe it was the spot we’d been in that afternoon when she was showing it off to me.  I’m so happy that Allison and her rad Texas family connected with me.  I had a blast showing off my home, romping through weeds and splashin in Lake Tahoe with them!  Congrats Allison on your senior year!

Vote for me for Best of Tahoe 2015!

Best of Tahoe 2014

Remember that time I won Best of Tahoe last year?  That was awesomesauce.

It was especially humbling because I didn’t even ask you to vote for me.  Frankly, I didn’t even realize voting was open.

This year, I am asking because I think it would be rad to win two years in a row.

So, I humbly ask you to follow this link and vote for me for Best Photographer!
