It’s freezing today in Tahoe. Actually, it’s been freezing all week. As I was trying to decide what amazing wedding to share from this past wedding season on the blog, the cold temps, banana bread in the oven, and the promise of fall from the chill in the air reminded me of Agnes and Laurence’s private estate North Tahoe Lodge wedding in Truckee from this past spring. There was still piles of snow. So much snow, in fact, that their guests spent an entire afternoon clearing the deck of snow for their ceremony.
Agnes and Laurence wanted to have a small, intimate celebration surrounded by friends and family. They wanted amazing food, lots of laughter, and great photos. I have to say, that when you are one of two vendors, it makes you feel incredibly unbelievably special. (I’ll try not to let it go to my head, Agnes).
Agnes is Polish and customarily, at a Polish wedding, the father presents the couple with two glasses – one of vodka, one of water. They are offered first to the bride, who must make her selection without knowing which is which. Tradition says that whoever ends up with the glass of vodka will be the dominant partner in the relationship. I think you can tell by the photos which way this ended!
Agnes and Laurence, it was an honor to be part of your day and even bigger honor to be so valued. I firmly believe that your wedding day should be a day where you celebrate with the friends and family closest to you and that the pomp, circumstance, and traditions aren’t that necessary so when clients find me that not only believe, but exemplify the same values, it makes my heart sing to be part of the day.

I think I can say that I have a type when it comes to brides and grooms: almost every couple I’ve photographed recently have been climbers! Which is to say, they are outdoor loving, adventure seeking, relaxed, loving people with a thirst for life and love and quite often, adult beverages. So basically, I wish I could be best friends with all of them.
Diane and Daniel are no exception. Daniel works for REI – as Diane told me, he’ll probably be a “lifer.” They contemplated camping in the days after their wedding and then decided that they’d splurge and stay in a bed instead, which sounds like something that over half of my friends would say! Diane’s smile just lit up the place the entire day. There were SO MANY moments that I loved from their Gatekeeper’s Museum wedding, it was hard to pick just ten to share on the blog. Those kids on the dance floor! I love it!!
Although it was a little chilly that week in Tahoe, you wouldn’t ever know by looking at the photos thanks to those incredibly blue skies. Lake Tahoe DJ Ryan Palmer had an epic dance party going almost immediately – best way to keep warm is to shake it like a polaroid picture!

Jessica and Toby met at Schaffer’s Mill Golf Course, so it was only fitting that they wed there. In fact, it was the first Schaffer’s Mill wedding ever and they did an incredible job. The grounds, and in particular, the ceremony site, are stunningly beautiful, with a creek running adjacent, gorgeous pine trees that block afternoon sun and a beautiful view of the mountains from the tented reception area.
The day went off without a hitch thanks to awesome wedding coordinators from some of my favorite local ladies, Julia and Kerry, and featured an amazingly delicious dinner from D’Lish Catering! Big super huge thanks to my trusty colleague and frequent second photographer, Annie Robillard of Annie X Photography for the assistance with this wedding!

Leah and Seb met living the life that every Tahoe local knows and loves: ski bumming in their youth in Vail, with jobs on the mountain, small apartments, and late nights drinking and rabble rousing followed by early mornings shredding. Today, they call San Francisco home and they spend every weekend they can in the Sierras, skiing at Alpine Meadows and Squaw. It was only fitting that their wedding be held in the place they consider to be their second home now. Together, they are an unbelievably gorgeous, fun, and vibrant couple. Their friends are no exception: they were dancing maniacs and there were more epic moves pulled at this wedding than I saw all year. With a play list that included Coolio, the party went straight until our cutoff time and my hangover the next day, upon which I happened to have to get up at 4 AM and drive to the airport to fly to Texas to work for SXSW Eco, was a bit rough but well worth it.
Seb’s family hails from Australia and they flew across the globe to celebrate with these two. It’s no wonder that they are surrounded by such amazing people: their love and graciousness exudes from all aspects of their lives. I feel very honored to have been their Alpine Meadows River Ranch wedding photographer. Here’s a few of my favorite frames from their day.
This wedding was the bomb.com. You can see my original whole post about how much I adore Sarah, Andy and their Squaw Valley Stables wedding via this link. It’s a wonderful early holiday gift to see it posted up at Tahoe Unveiled! I’ve been super slacking this year on getting weddings posted up to Two Bright Lights, which is the service most photographers use to help get their weddings published. I simply couldn’t wait to share this one though and it’s one of the few I’ve managed to get on the service! Big thanks to Stephanie and the Tahoe Unveiled team for the internet love last week! You can see Tahoe Unveiled’s entire post via this link.
Tahoe Unveiled was started by Stephanie Martin of One Fine Day Events as a resource for weddings in Lake Tahoe. The website is constantly growing and changing to provide brides (and grooms!) with the most up to date information on the area’s elite wedding vendors and ideas for the perfect destination wedding in Lake Tahoe.

Leah and Sebastian’s Alpine Meadows River Ranch Wedding was nothing short of amazing. First of all, it was filled with really, really ridiculously good looking people. Second, all of those really, really ridiculously good looking people had the most epic dance moves I’ve ever seen. Although the day started out cold and overcast, the sun peeked out just in time for their ceremony and everyone stayed warm breaking it down to Coolio and Salt’n’Pepa on the dance floor. Leah and Sebastian met in Vail, CO while essentially living the life that most people in the world can’t even comprehend or imagine is an option, but people in Tahoe feel lucky to part of every single powder day. I’m certain their final blog post is going to be nothing but epic dance photos, but until then, here’s a few frames from their day.
