Tahoe Engagement Photography | Kiva Beach | Rosa + Justin

I’m so thrilled to be connected with these two!  Justin is brother to one of my clients, Julie.  Julie, Michael and I had an incredible day romping around San Francisco once for their engagement session.  Since then, I photographed their wedding and they had a child!

I love staying connected to clients and their families afterwards and this is one family that is so fantastic to be part of.  Rosa and Justin are getting married at the Landing Resort this summer and I can’t wait!  I envision gorgeous blue skies and an awesome holiday weekend in their future.  I expect it will look very different from their super snowy winter engagement session at Kiva Beach!

Tahoe Winter Engagement Session | Kristin + Alan | Sneak Peek

Kristin and Alan are my kind of people: fun and quick to laugh with a splash of goofiness.  Both members of this rad couple work in education and work for a summer camp every year.  Yes!  Camp Life!  Even more awesome: they want their wedding at Sugar Bowl Resort to have elements of summer camp style. Can you imagine anything more perfect for me?  I can’t!  I feel pretty lucky to have been connected with these two.  Kristin and Alan, thanks for braving the cold temps and traffic to come to Tahoe for your engagement session.  I can’t wait for your wedding!!

More to come from this awesome couple and their Tahoe winter engagement session at Sand Harbor State Park.

Lake Tahoe Engagement Session | Elizabeth + Shamus

Hailing from Boston, Elizabeth and Shamus are recent transplants to Northern CA.  Although they currently call Sacramento home, they are hoping to get relocated to the Bay Area and love the access to Tahoe that their new home provides.  When they first got in touch with me, Elizabeth indicated that she would love to have some fall colors and mountains in her photos.  I’m pretty sure I delivered both for their Lake Tahoe engagement session.  We started at Blue Angel Cafe for happy hour and then kicked off the session at Lake Tahoe Community College of all places, which has a beautiful community garden featuring great afternoon light and beautiful fall colors.  Quick stops at Taylor Creek visitor center and Valhalla Estate rounded out their session.

Sand Harbor Engagement Session | Meagan and Joe

I love starting my engagement sessions off with happy hour because it allows everyone to get to know each other, relax into some good conversation and then let me set up what I call the “ground rules” for the day.  Joe took these entirely to heart and as a result, I had so much fun romping around North Lake Tahoe with this rad couple for their Sand Harbor engagement session.  They were giggling and laughing so much the entire session that even I couldn’t keep a straight face.  The ease that Joe was able to bring smiles to his future wife’s face was endearing. These two are filled with such gigantic love and enjoyment of each other’s company and it shines through in every single photo. Although they call Northern CA home, Joe’s heart is in the mountains of his home and I’m ecstatic to see this place that he spoke so fondly of when I photograph their Spearfish Canyon Lodge wedding in South Dakota next year.  Just go look at that place!  I’m also excited to explore all that the Dakotas has to offer when I’m there and the New York Times just placed the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota on their list of places to visit in 2016!

Tahoe Engagement Session | Caitlin + Brad | Sneak Peek

Caitlin and Brad met while attending school in one of my favorite cities, Tucson, AZ. Brad grew up in Reno and after years of the heat in the southwest, the pair was ready to return to the mountains and four seasons.  Since Caitlin is newer to the Reno-Tahoe area, she really wanted to highlight the gorgeousness that fall in the area has to offer and this golden late afternoon light was the perfect fit for this rad duo.  Although I can’t wait to share more images from their awesome Tahoe engagement session, these few frames will just have to do for now!

Alameda Engagement Session | Lauren + Tim

These two.  I’m so happy they found me and I cannot wait for their West Shore Cafe wedding next March.  Lauren grew up in Texas so I feel right at home with her.  She’s as comfortable in cowboy boots as she is in a dress.  They both love day drinking and specifically, wine.  They believe in the power of breakfast (and possibly even second breakfast) but we didn’t cover that.  Clearly, we are meant to be best friends forever.

They have a fabulous house in Oakland that I adore and for their engagement session, of which, I shall note, Tim emphatically did not want to participate in, we decided to run around to some of their favorite picturesque neighborhood haunts that also involve wine.  Lake Merritt was the perfect spot to start in: one could definitely waste spend away the entire day drinking on the deck of The Lake Chalet.  Next stop up was their local winery.  Lauren and Tim are founding members of the wine club and I have to say the Zin I tried was excellent.

In the end, we ended up with an awesome batch of photos for their session and a super wonderful afternoon.  I couldn’t have asked for a better couple to enjoy my afternoon and evening with!

Bay Area Engagement Sessions

Oakland Engagement Session | Lauren + Tim Sneak Peek

Tim emphatically did not want to take engagement photos.

Lauren and I collectively joined forces to sway him otherwise.  I tried all my usual tricks: promises of adult beverages, sarcastic exasperation, rotating locations.

He did not concur with our plan.

I’m pretty sure the Laurens succeeded, however, in capturing some wonderful shots regardless of his disagreement in our views on the awesomeness that is engagement portraits.

I think that makes this Oakland engagement session a win win for everyone.  More to come from this cute couple and our awesome and fun afternoon exploring Oakland, Lake Merritt, and Rock Wall Winery!

Sand Harbor Portrait

Sand Harbor Engagement Session | Teddy + Janet

Hidden Beach is one of my favorite locations to take couples for engagement sessions.  As the name implies, the beach is hidden about 1/2 mile south of Incline Village before you get to Sand Harbor. It’s about as close of a feel to a Sand Harbor engagement session as you can get, without the permitting and fees required to shoot at Sand Harbor itself.  With huge rocks, gorgeous trees, and a quiet removed location, you are almost always guaranteed a great sunset and a quiet evening with not a soul around.  There’s a short hike to get to it, but it’s totally worth it!

To round out your evening, start with happy hour over at the Lone Eagle Grille in Incline Village.

Teddy grew up with my “little brother” and is one of his best friends to this day.  He and Janet are both nurses and have big plans to become travel nurses together so that they can see more of the United States after they wed in October.  I’m super thrilled to be their wedding photographer and even more thrilled they spent a week with me vacationing in Tahoe this spring!  We had a blast!
