Although our spring temps are lingering in the realm of brisk this week, summer is on the horizon and that means summer vacationers will fill our beaches, campgrounds, rental houses and bike paths. The welcome change in temperatures will surely pave the way for more outdoor adventures. I’m personally ready to get on my bike! Summer vacation is also the perfect time to take your Tahoe family portraits.
The Crandall family hailed from Texas so I felt right at home with this large loving laughing crew. We did some large and small group shots, as we always do, but then the family trusted me enough to let their kids play and enjoy themselves in some outdoor exploration, which made for great candid photo opportunities, which I love. Valhalla Estate is always a fantastic choice for your South Lake Tahoe Family portraits session because it offers such a wonderful mix of forest, meadow, lawn, pier and beach.

Ana and Andrew had me at pizza.
When we first spoke in 2015 about their wedding, over a year out, Ana was most excited about the pizza. As a photojournalist, there are few details that I worry about on a wedding day. I am, frankly, unconcerned with the pomp and circumstance and whether or not you’re going to have any traditions. By all means, cut that cake and I will photograph it, but I’m not going to orchestrate your day or suggest that you do things you don’t want to for photos sake. What I will get behind though: pizza.
The pizza was fantastic.
But the rest of their day, that was fantastic also. From the tear inducing speeches to the cake in Andrew’s brother’s face, from the coordinated and choreographed first dances (Ana and her father danced to Time Warp!), everything about their daytime Zephyr Cove Resort wedding with a pizza buffet was right up my alley.

“We just had our 5th photo session with Lauren and she is worth her weight in gold. We’ve hired her to take our maternity photos, newborn, 6mo/holiday, 1st birthday, and now our holiday photos again. They’ve all turned out amazing! At our latest session, our (now) 18 month old was tired, hungry, and extremely cranky. All he wanted to do was eat his cheerios and yell/scream/cry. Lauren was amazing, just rolled with it and kept us all laughing and lighthearted while my son had a total meltdown. I thought it was a complete disaster. However, we just got our photos back, and you’d have no idea that my son was so miserable! She managed to capture the few moments when he was actually happy and smiling and made the session totally worth it! I am in love with the photos and can’t wait to order our holiday cards. Cannot recommend Lauren enough!”
I think Jess’s online review of these Tahoe fall portraits says it all.
And look at these photos. She’s right. You’ll have no idea that her son was miserable. But we know the truth.
