Achieve Tahoe Ability Camp

I am very fortunate to have been able to donate my time for four consecutive years now to the Ability Camp at Achieve Tahoe, formerly known as Disabled Sports USA Far West, an amazing non profit out of Alpine Meadows, Lake Tahoe that provides affordable inclusive physical and recreational activities that build health and confidence to the disabled.  I’m especially excited about their recent name change.  They really wanted something that highlight the inclusiveness and the opportunities that they provided and I think it’s a perfect fit.  Every year, the Achieve Tahoe Ability Camp offers a week long program, providing specialized instruction in adaptive alpine skiing and snowboarding for up to 35 disabled veterans and their guests.

Big thanks to Northstar, and Squaw and Alpine Ski Resorts, and Wanderlust Yoga for stepping up again this year and for sponsoring such an amazing program.

If you participated inAchieve Tahoe’s Ability Camp anytime in the last four years, you may find your galleries via this link.  Here’s a handful of my favorite images from the week.

Weddings that Give Back | Published at Black Sheep Bride

I feel pretty lucky to have joined the Black Sheep Bride community.  Danielle’s quest to connect couples with wedding vendors that give back to the community continues to inspire me and enrich my life.

Earlier this year, I was mulling over how I could make the most impact in my quest to give back and decided that the optimal way was to donate a percentage of every wedding booked to the same non-profit for an entire calendar year.  Picking the first non-profit to be the beneficiary for my donations wasn’t even a question.  I’m excited to start a life long tradition of hopefully helping the non-profits that my clients have direct involvement with.  I’m proud to say that I was able to donate $500 to Hope Shines in the first quarter of 2015 and you can read more about Hope Shines, the couple that inspired the cause and the story over at Black Sheep Bride via this link.

Black Sheep Bride aims to “ignite the wedding industry to do more with their goods, inspire brides to seek planning alternatives that save money to save the world, and to impact society with wedding/consumers that embrace good deeds.”  If you are a wedding vendor that believes in the Black Sheep Bride mission and wants to join an amazing community of wedding vendors, you can find out more information and apply via this link.

You can also follow Black Sheep Bride on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.

St. Baldrick's Tahoe

St. Baldrick’s Tahoe | “Brave the Shave”

When local Tahoe teen Bailey Johnson was 9 months old, the doctors said he wouldn’t live another day and definitely not past his first birthday.  He was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma, a form of cancer that starts in certain types of primitive nerve cells in an embryo or fetus.  Today, Bailey is almost 16 and responsible for spearheading a yearly effort in my community of South Lake Tahoe to raise money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to eradicating childhood cancer.

More children are lost to cancer in the U.S. than any other disease—in fact, more than many other childhood diseases combined.  Childhood cancer isn’t quite so rare in our small town either.  Jenn and Jim Drennan’s beautiful daughter Caitlin was born 4 months premature in 2010.  She was rushed to the hospital in Sacramento where three days later she underwent exploratory abdominal surgery and began chemotherapy.  Like Bailey, Caitlin was also diagnosed with stage four Neuroblastoma, which, by the time she was born, was already spread throughout her body.

This year, more than 150 participants shaved their head at the St. Baldrick’s Tahoe event to show their support for their fellow community members and to help stamp out childhood cancer.  They raised more than $54,000, besting the previous years’ totals by more than 15 people and $13,000.

I was happy to lend my skills as photographer in the name of Caitlin, whose family I love, cherish and respect.  Here are a few of my favorite images from the night.  If you were a participant or spectator at the event and would like to view or download your images, you may do so via this link.

Giving Back | 2015 Non Profit of the Year | Hope Shines

I recently became a founding member and investor in a small start up called Black Sheep Bride.  I wrote about it yesterday.  Danielle’s enthusiasm and passion for her mission had me thinking about what else I could do to contribute to others and further strengthen my mission and culture of giving back.  I finally settled on a new goal: to donate a portion of every wedding package booked to a non-profit.  I’m going to pick one non-profit a year so that my contributions will hopefully be a significant boost to the organization.   Small amounts add up and I hope that the meager amounts I can contribute make a difference.

The 2015 non-profit of the year is Hope Shines.

Hope Shines Logo

I have chosen Hope Shines as my first non-profit to receive donations because two of my previous wedding clients from 2014, Stephanie and Dan, have considerable roles in the organization.  Dan is the Executive Director of the organization and his new wife Stephanie, is the organization’s Medical Consultant and Volunteer Organizer.  Dan and Stephanie will celebrate their one year anniversary in June.  I think that people that give selflessly are amazing and as such, I want to contribute to the cause that this rad couple finds most important.  Hope Shines, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 2007. Hope Shines provides disadvantaged children in Rwanda both local and foreign mentoring and support through programs focusing on education, nutrition and health. Hope Shines was founded on the belief that every child should be given the opportunity for a healthy, happy life both in mind and body and HOPE for a bright future.

BAHM for Charity Photo Booth | Tahoe Chamber of Commerce

Congrats and big thanks for the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce for their efforts to support our community. Our chamber hosts a monthly Business After Hours Mixer (BAHM) once a month.  Once a year, they have a BAHM for Charity and I honored to donate my photo booth to the cause.   This year’s BAHM for Charity raised $3,650 and food donations for local charities Christmas Cheer and Bread and Broth!

If you were at the event, you may view, download and share your photos from the online gallery.  I’m really sorry to those of you who wrote down your emails on the list.  Unfortunately, I didn’t notice the list get swooped up by cleaning staff and it went m.i.a. while I was cleaning up the booth.  Please share the gallery around to everyone who was there for me!

Here’s a few of my favorites from the evening, but you can see the rest by following this link.

Lauren Lindley Photography’s Lake Tahoe Photo Booth Rental is a fantastic and fun addition to all kinds of events including: weddings, corporate events, company parties, trade shows, birthday or engagement parties, fundraising events, festivals and more.  Photo booth is supremely social: even the most camera shy folks will have props in their hand by the end of the evening.   Small booths only hold a handful of your guests but the Lauren Lindley Photo Booth can fit everyone in!  More people, more props, more fun!  It’s also an affordable addition to your extravaganza that allows your guests to relive the party later thanks to our customized theme back drops, props and fun attendants!  Learn more about Lake Tahoe Photo Booth Rentals here.

Tahoe Photo Booth Rental | Tahoe Regional Young Professionals’ Winter White Party

The Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (aka TRYP) hold an annual fundraiser on behalf of a local non-profit called the Winter White Party.   TRYP is a group of “forward thinking individuals who believe in giving back to the community that has provided an inspirational place to work, live, play and prosper.”  By connecting Tahoe’s next generation to help better the community, TRYP organizes and participates in charity fundraisers and networking events while providing career opportunities to help support Tahoe residents and businesses.  The Winter White Party is their premier fundraising event for a local non-profit.  This year’s recipient, Project 44, is an off-shoot of the Sierra and Child Family Services program.   Currently, many of Tahoe’s at-need youth and children are being sent to foster homes outside of the basin due to a shortage of foster homes in our area.  Project 44 seeks to bring awareness to this problem: we need 44 beds in the Lake Tahoe area to house our own foster children in.

I am always more than willing to donate my photo booth to local non-profits for their events.  It’s the best way I know how to contribute to my local community and give back.  The TRYP Winter White party was no exception.  I must say, these folks are photo booth pros – there are over 600 photos in the final gallery!  Here are a few of my favorites, but if you attended the Winter White Party, you may find the entire gallery of photos via this link.

Tahoe Photo Booth | TAMBA End of the Season Party

From 2011-2013 I was a board member and secretary for our local Mountain Biking Club, the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association. TAMBA is pretty awesome and it’s full of awesome people who like to ride bikes and make our trails better. You can head over to their website to read more about them or better yet, join!

They recently held their end of the season party and it was a smashing success.  Much like their Spring Season Kick Off Party, the end of the season party offers folks a chance to pre-renew their membership for 2015 and raised money for all the important work TAMBA does through raffles and a BBQ. It was a fantastic time at my favorite place (The American Legion, of course) with a slew of the best of the best people Tahoe has to offer: local DJ David Berkman donated his time spinning tunes, my buddy Dreu Murin donated his time as MC and I was more than thrilled to donate my Tahoe photo booth.

Here’s a few of my favorites from the evening. As always, the link to the full gallery will remain on my website under the 2014 Photo Booth tab. Head on over to the gallery via this link to download your photos, share to social media or order prints.

Although our trails are still in great shape here in Tahoe with nice firm dirt to ride on, the TAMBA party always signifies the end of the season and the beginning of winter.  Pray for snow!

Tahoe Event Photographer | Boys and Girls Club Golf Classic at Edgewood

When my friend and client Michelle asked me to donate my time as a Tahoe Event Photographer to the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, I didn’t have to think twice.  Their annual Golf Classic is a major source of fundraising for the organization and is held the week after Edgewood Golf Course closes for the season each year.  Individuals and Corporations participate for an amazing day of golf and fun in the Tahoe Sun at one of the most gorgeous golf courses in the nation.  I know it’s winter now and you aren’t even thinking about golf, but I’m thrilled to finally finish share these photos from last September!

The Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe has been providing quality programs for the youth of the Tahoe community since 1991. They have more than 900 members ages 5-18.  In addition to providing programs and services to the youth year-round, the also offer them a physical and emotional safe haven to learn and grow within our town.

You may donate to the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe via this link or find more information about participating in the 2014 Golf Classic via this link.

Calling All Athletes – K’s for Keegan

In high school, Maddie was one of my first and best friends.  Her family is so ridiculously kind, not to mention gorgeous, that I spent most of my freshman and sophomore year feeling not worthy of their generosity.  Maddie not only fancied Audrey Hepburn as her style icon but literally looked like her, which was horrifying because I wore button down shirts three sizes too big and had no idea how to style my hair at all.

Horrifying, but really, isn’t all of high school?

Today, Maddie has married one of our high school friends whose family is equally as kind as hers and together  they make this super family of gorgeous people who deserve all the happiness in the world.

And they have it.

Except, their son Keegan has had and will continue to have a world of health problems.

Despite this, they are still ridiculously optimistic, loving, and clearly happy.

When Keegan was born, he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.  In the first few weeks of his life, Keegan was became the youngest and smallest heart transplant in the state of Texas and the smallest heart transplant in the US.

Today, Keegan is a super happy kid whose strength I can’t imagine.  He clearly gets it from his mother.  He’s in the hospital constantly.  Despite this, Maddie and Gray try to provide a somewhat normal life for their son and his sister, aptly named Audrey.

Why am I telling you this?

Because you can support me by supporting my awesome friend and her awesome family by joining K’s for Keegan by buying a tee with us.  If there is enough interest, we can get technical wicking tees made.  On the back, it will say “Keegan is alive today thanks to an organ donor.  Be a hero.  Donate life.”  It will also have the website for the national organ donation non-profit organization that helps coordinate the official state registries, http://donatelife.net, and Keegan’s blog address.

Head over to Keegan’s Blog or  email Maddie at keeganharrison@yahoo.com with your desired number and sizes.  Do it!  Stat!  That means RIGHT NOW!

Tahoe South Fun

I don’t know how to put this, but I’m kind of a big deal.

Apparently I’m just going to be in web videos for Wake Up Tahoe with Dreu Murin all the time.  Skip to 6:24 for more of yours truly.

Adra, also from Wake Up Tahoe, and I both volunteered our time this past weekend for the K-Tahoe Radio Remote at the Meek’s Kids Day.  I set up another photobooth.  I decided to green screen it, which has caused me great pains of regret in previous booths.  With only 60 or so photos to wade through this time though (instead of the 500+ from the Winter Beach Party), it was a snap!  I picked a variety of vintage textures for backgrounds and I think they turned out pretty adorable!  The kids will love it since they will have no idea how I managed to make their green backdrop new colors!
