>I went and spent five days on a houseboat on Lake Shasta with 20 other people last week, but I’ll have to tell you all about that later because it requires more time and energy than I have right now.
Instead, I’ll tell you about how we woke up Wednesday morning and decided to fly to Portland to see Primus.
We woke up Wednesday morning and decided to fly to Portland to see Primus.
And it was awesome.
Buddy’s favorite band is Primus and I really wanted to see their current tour, but we missed the closest show in Sacramento while we were on houseboat. When I realized there were stills tickets available and that it was an hour long direct Southwest Airlines flight from Reno, I convinced him that we should go.
Portland is AWESOME. I am in love with that city. The public transportation system is so easy to maneuver on, there are bikes and bike racks EVERYWHERE, the food is amazing, and the coffee and beer is even better.
We stayed at McMenamins White Eagle Saloon and Hotel for $45. Our room had bunk beds. It was the only room available.
We had amazing Mexican at Por Que No and breakfast at the infamous food carts on Mississippi.
We had beer all over town. We started with McMenimans, obviously, and made stops at Amnesia, Rogue, and Deschutes.
We walked by this awesome shop filled with old 70s and 80s theme toys – it had every lunchbox I ever had in the window.
The Primus show was in this fabulous old theater with unbelievable acoustics. I was in heaven. Buddy was pissed because the whole place was seated and there was nowhere to mosh. Regardless, the show was rad and I’m really happy I was able to finally see them.
We were there for about 30 hours and it was a really awesome experience. I’m so glad we went. I can’t wait to go back and explore Portland some more. We met really super cool people while we were there and I may have found my new favorite city.
