Harvey's Wedding Chapel

Harvey’s Wedding Chapel | Liz + Tony

To be perfectly honest, I was on Chair Ten at Kirkwood on a powder day when I received a phone call from the concierge at The Landing Resort and Spa.  You see, it was an unexpected powder day.  So unexpected, in fact, that Liz and Tony, who had planned to be wed in an intimate beach ceremony outdoors had to scramble to find a new venue for their elopement.   They settled on Harvey’s Wedding Chapel but unfortunately, the photographer who usually photographs all the ceremonies in the Chapel was on vacation.  Cue a phone call to me: could I be there in an hour?  Yes, I could, but I would be wearing ski clothes.

Liz and Tony were so grateful, ski clothes or not and I am so honored to have been able to get back to town quickly enough to help them out.  Here are a few of my favorite photos from their Tahoe South elopement.

Harvey's Tahoe Elopement

Harvey’s Tahoe Elopement | Tony + Liz | Sneak Peek

I was on a chairlift at Kirkwood Mountain Resort for what may or may not be the first and last powder day of our ski season when I got a phone call asking if I could photograph a Harvey’s Tahoe Elopement in less than an hour and a half.

I of course said yes.

You can’t get married without a photographer!

Thankfully Liz and Tony didn’t mind when I showed up in my ski gear.

More to come from this gorgeous couple.

Beacon Tahoe Wedding | Randy and Shana | Sneak Peak

I thought my wedding season for 2014 was concluded and wrapped up but Santa Claus brought me a surprise Lake Tahoe elopement for Christmas!  Shana and Randy decided to get married at the end of a gorgeous Lake Tahoe pier for their Beacon Tahoe wedding and I was honored to be included in their ceremony.  Even better, I never imagined I’d have the chance to shoot another wedding that involved a fire truck in my lifetime.  This was clearly wrong.  Two fire trucks at two weddings in one year!

Shana and Randy surprised their family, who happen to all be close friends of mine, by showing up in Lake Tahoe unannounced on Christmas Eve.  They flew across the country from Virginia on a whim and with even bigger news in store than just their presence: they were going to elope on the shores of Lake Tahoe while they were here!

I was more than thrilled to photograph their day for them.  Here’s a sneak peek from Randy and Shana’s elopement at the Beacon Bar and Grill pier.   Happy holidays to all those Christmas brides out there!

Tahoe Elopement Photographer | Shelly + Brian

The first vacation Shelly and Brian ever took together was three months into their relationship and he brought her to Lake Tahoe.  Fast forward eight years: Shelly and Brian have decided to elope in Tahoe.  Not only was Tahoe the first trip they took together, but they returned almost every year since, so Tahoe holds a very special place in their heart.  I was honored they contacted me to photograph their day, which was officiated by Lake of the Sky Weddings.

Although it had been fairly overcast and crummy the day before the wedding, their late afternoon ceremony was cool, sunny and offered gorgeous views of Emerald Bay with very few tourists in site.  After that, we headed down to one of my favorite portrait locations, Valhalla Estates.

Tahoe Elopement Photographer | Ashley + Matthew

Ashley and Matthew were wed in an extraordinary way: in a informal, intimate ceremony surrounded by family at the mid-station of the Heavenly Gondola.  Although the cold wind was raging that afternoon on the mountain, it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.  Ashley’s sister officiated the ceremony and both Ashley and Matthew had personal vows that were unique, hilarious and representative of their goofy personalities.

Ashley and Matthew said they chose to wed in Lake Tahoe because it’s “one [of her] most favorite places in the world.”   They love spending time outside and their adventurous spirits pervaded throughout the three hours I spent with them.  They were totally game to stand on tables for the sake of photos at apres-ski bar and eatery Fire + Ice, to trek through the woods and slush, and to play photographer for foreign tourists while in the middle of our portrait session.  We capped off the evening with a visit to Santa and then they headed to my favorite local sushi joint, Naked Fish, to celebrate.

I feel so lucky that they chose me as their Tahoe Elopement Photographer because I had such a joy and laughter filled time with their family.  I have the most amazing job in the world.

Ashley and Matthew, thank you so much.  Congratulations!

Tahoe Elopement Photographer | K and J

Sssssssh!  This one is a secret.

K and J eloped on their 4 year anniversary at the Shore House in Tahoe Vista, CA but are planning a big family filled ceremony on the East Coast in 2014.  J is planning on wearing the same dress so they can’t show anyone the photos yet.  I’m not sure how they are going to keep these gorgeous images of them to themselves though!  Photography was a priority for K who professed, much to J’s chagrin, that she planned on making “tons of prints” and hanging them “ALL OVER THE HOUSE” when they move to Texas.  They were an amazing couple: they were both bright and engaging, willing to share their stories with me, full of laughter and clearly full of love for each other.

Dear K + J, thanks for sharing your stories, hilarity, and best of all, your “business time” and “now I’m riding a horse” face with me.

Presenting the story of a Tahoe Elopement.
