About 8 years ago, I second shot a wedding at Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite for another photographer. I worked with this photographer quite a bit at the beginning of my career, despite the fact that our styles were EXTREMELY different. He was an older, very classic, traditional wedding photographer with a smidge of hokeyness (think props and signs and very awkward direction). I offered him a side of photography that he wasn’t trained in and a more well rounded gallery (you should always hire seconds that are great at your weaknesses y’all). Flash forward to 2021 and the sister of the bride of the Tenaya Lodge wedding reaches out. She was engaged to be married and confessed that of all the photos that their family had received from that wedding day SO long ago, that my candids were their favorites.

Moral of this story: apparently I am memorable y’all.  Weird.  Who would have thought?

Becca and Louie were planning a Discovery Bay Country Club wedding and would I be willing to travel down there for their wedding? Heck yes! Was I excited to see their family again (who also all remembered me)? Heck yes! Did the officiant get in a car accident and end up in the hospital the day before their wedding leaving them to scramble to find a new one? Heck yes! Did the replacement officiant show up 30 minutes late? Heck yes! Did it ruin their day? Heck no!

Becca and Louie threw an absolutely perfect wedding day thanks to the help of their friends and family. It was mostly a DIY affair – with friends at the helm of the DJ booth, the hair and makeup duties, and more. That sunset light was a dream and their dance party went off, thanks to a wild cousin and a lot of tequila.

While there for the weekend for the Discovery Bay Country Club wedding, Nicky and I had the best time exploring the nearby town of Brentwood, CA. It has a charming little main street with lots of fun places to pop into and explore (recommendations below!)

Visit Brentwood CA

Brentwood, CA is a vibrant little city east of the Bay area, close to Stockton and about an hour south of Sacramento, CA.  It offers 19.2 miles of trails to ride and walk, year-round community events & activities, including the Brentwood Farmers Market and street fair, which we popped into. It happens Saturdays all year long! There are plenty of fun quirky shops to pop into and restaurants to explore.  Make sure you stop into Chill Tea and Coffee for your caffeine fix.  You know I’m gonna find a wine bar anywhere I go and Brentwood offers that also: the CoCo Wine Company serves local wines and beer in a charming location right on the main strip.  Need to fuel your day? Look no farther than MJ’s Diner where they dish up massive omelettes, breakfast specialties and baked goods.  I assure you, the menu is HUGE and has something for everyone!
