Dana and Calvin’s wedding at the historic San Benito House in Half Moon Bay, CA, was nothing short of vibrant. Their day was filled with bold hues, joyful moments, and a a lot of color that radiated through every detail. This colorful celebration perfectly matched the charm of San Benito House, making it the perfect day for this colorful couple.
The Venue: San Benito House in Half Moon Bay
Nestled in the heart of Half Moon Bay, San Benito House is a venue brimming with character and, most importantly for laid back couples, ease. Its historic architecture, large green lawn, massive patio, built in bar, and inviting atmosphere make it an ideal setting for intimate outdoor weddings. With its prime location near the coast, couples can enjoy both the laid back vibe of the venue, but step aside to the expansive beauty of the Half Moon Bay coast for portraits with ease. For Dana and Calvin, San Benito House provided an amazing backdrop to their vibrant vision, offering a warm and welcoming space for their family and friends to celebrate. If I’m not mistaken, this was the first wedding the San Benito House had hosted in their lawn and not only was it exceptional, but everything went off without a hitch!
Wedding Details: A Kaleidoscope of Color
Dana and Calvin’s wedding was a true celebration of color. Every detail, from the floral arrangements to the table settings, was designed to burst with vibrant hues. The flowers featured bold shades of red, yellow, pink, and orange, creating an atmosphere that felt alive and joyful. Their reception decor included colorful linens, playful flower centerpieces, vintage place settings, and a “cake” made of brie that added a whimsical surprising touch. Even their wedding attire reflected their personalities, with Calvin opting for a deep purple suit, a fun bowtie and Dana donning a stunning rainbow vieil that tied the palette together. Dana LOVES color and she wanted to ensure that her San Benito House wedding was as vibrant as she was!
Photography Styles and Representing Vibrant Weddings
Dana and Calvin faced a challenge that many couples planning colorful weddings encounter: finding a photographer whose style could truly capture the essence of their day. Current wedding photography trends often lean toward specific aesthetics. Light and Airy styles focus on soft and ethereal looks with pastel tones and overblown highlights. Moody and Cinematic photography offers dramatic and shadowy images evoking deep emotions, but are dark and often mostly black and white. Film-Inspired or Editorial styles are timeless and high-fashion inspired, but often come with a vintage film look. Warm and Golden trends get you close, with vibrant colors but frequently orange skin tones. Let’s not forget those Muted and Earthy Tones (Boho) styles for all those Tulum-loving ladies with subdued, natural palettes and neutral shades.
Step in: me. My photography is bold and vibrant, centers on true-to-life colors with an emphasis on brightness and energy and a high contrast look. Dana and Calvin were drawn to my Bold and Vibrant style because it aligned with their vision of a wedding filled with life and color. My approach ensures that the intensity of colors is captured authentically – I like it to be bright, crisp, clean and slightly more colorful than real life. This way I can preserve both the vibrancy and the emotional depth of the day. From the radiant florals to the joyful energy of their guests, every moment was documented in a way that reflected their personalities and vision and it was an incredible San Benito House wedding that was right up my alley!
Capturing the Celebration: Photography Highlights
Holding a San Benito House wedding? Your ceremony will take place in their sunlit lawn. There’s a wooden stage perfect for a band or DJ that you can add a dance floor in front of. Tables on a deck offer an opportunity for either buffet style or family style dining (and the catering is bomb!). There are a few bed and breakfasts nearby that are perfect for the wedding party or friends and family to stay in, like the nearby Mill Rose Inn, which is also an exceptional intimate wedding venue. If you’re planning your own wedding and want your story captured in a bold, vibrant colorful style, I’d love to help.
