If you’ve been looking for wedding venues in Austin, TX, and the surrounding area (read: Dripping Springs) it should come to no surprise that there is no shortage of incredible Austin wedding venues, but if you’re looking for a spot that has a wealth of variety and balances rustic charm with modern elegance, Addison Grove should be at the top of your list. Just outside the city, this venue offers great shade, an airy and sophisticated barn, and an outdoor ceremony space that photographs beautifully regardless of the temperatures outside. I’m not going to mince words, on the day of Megan and Clay’s Addison Grove wedding, it was HOT.  But you can’t tell from the photos!

This wedding was extra special for me—I spent my years in Austin from 1998 to 2006 babysitting Megan and her brother, Zach, while I was in college. Their family has always been dear to me, and being asked to photograph Megan’s wedding was an incredible honor. Watching someone you’ve known since childhood step into such a huge milestone is both surreal and deeply meaningful. It was a joy to see what amazing humans they’ve become and to be welcomed so warmly into the celebration, proudly introduced to those closest to them.

An Addison Grove Wedding: why it’s a dream venue

With oak trees and open fields, an Addison Grove wedding offers plenty of opportunities for variety in wedding portraits, along with the expansive space for both wedding parties to be taking portraits simultaneously.  This is an immense time saver if you aren’t having a first look.  From golden-hour shots in the trees to, to cocktail hour on the patio, and first-look photos under the trees, the venue provides a variety of natural settings for great images.

The layout works well for different wedding styles, from modern to rustic. The reception barn has high ceilings, large windows, and an open feel that makes for bright and well-lit photos. The indoor-outdoor flow ensures great lighting throughout the day.

This venue is ideal for capturing both candid moments and big celebrations. The spacious grounds allow for plenty of storytelling photography.  The flow of the day is generally natural and utilizes a wide variety of spaces on the property so that no one feels stagnant or trapped (or overstaying their welcome in any one location).  Whether it’s your guests enjoying their first welcome cocktail, heartfelt vows in the oak grove, or lively dance floor moments in the barn, with all the backdrops available to you I can assure you that your wedding gallery will have a mix of intimate and dynamic images.

Pro Tips for the Best Addison Grove Wedding Photos

The venue’s outdoor ceremony site is beautiful, but the Texas sun can be intense. Scheduling your ceremony closer to golden hour ensures soft, flattering natural light. Megan and Clay’s ceremony time was quite a bit earlier in the afternoon and it created a lighting discrepancy between the shade and the full sun that is difficult to manage.  It left the sun streaming into Megan’s eyes which is never a comfortable position to be in!  Shifting the ceremony backdrop to have the sun behind the wedding party is always a good choice if you must hold your ceremony earlier in the afternoon. If you want your wedding photos to pop, incorporating bold colors the way Megan and Clay did in their Addison Grove wedding in florals, decor, (or attire) helps create vibrant images against the venue’s neutral backdrop.
