So you think you want candid photos?
If you or your clients have requested “candid” photos, this one’s for you. When we think of candid photos, we think of the perfectly relaxed, comfortable, effortlessly beautiful people laughing or looking at each other, as if they never knew the camera was there. And it’s cute to think these photos are actually candid, but they’re not (sorry to burst your bubble). When clients request those staple “candids,” it’s more than just showing up and randomly catching the perfect frame–there’s a lot that goes into the perfect “candid”: lighting, posing, and more. It's my job to make you look effortless and at ease and that takes just a little bit of work.
Thunderbird Lodge Wedding | Laura + Ryan
Thunderbird Lodge is an incredibly special place: it's located on the north east side of Lake Tahoe, near Incline Village. It’s one of the oldest estates on the lake and the original owner was eccentric, to put it mildly. The estate is one of a kind, both in story and physical presence. It's one of my favorite places on Lake Tahoe to photograph weddings and I'm overjoyed to revisit this gorgeous and classic Thunderbird Lodge wedding from 2018.
Fort Worth Civil Ceremony | Kelly + Andy
Seven years after meeting, my best friend Kelly and her love Andy were wed in a Fort Worth Civil Ceremony at the 2nd District Court of Appeals. We managed to keep it a secret until the very last second as it was attended by immediate family only and myself, which made me feel very special and as we all know, it's all about me. It was a wonderful way to start the holiday week and I am overjoyed to see my friend so happy.
Carpinteria Beach Micro Wedding
Like many couples, Sam and Bree faced challenges when planning and de-planning their wedding in 2020. Instead of postponing or cancelling, they decided that they would have an intimate ceremony for just immediate family, officiated by their best friend at their beach that has been in their family for generations. Their Carpinteria Beach micro wedding was relaxed, simple, and full of laughter and plenty of IPAs.
Tahoe Backyard Microwedding | Joe + Jolie
Like many people's weddings this year, Joe and Jolie's intimate and tiny Tahoe backyard microwedding went through many different ramifications. Regardless of the hiccups, they were so incredibly thrilled to just become husband and wife surrounded by some VERY dedicated friends.
Bringing a Sense of Home to Your Wedding
Whether you had to postpone your wedding until next year or you decided to do a small, intimate ceremony or elopement instead, bringing a sense of home to your wedding can calm the chaos of the changes you’ve had to make. Here are some ways you can add touches of home to your day, no matter what it ends up looking like.
Gastler Farm Wedding | Durham, CT | Monika + Mike |
While I know that their Gastler Farm wedding wasn't exactly what Mike and Monika had planned, and that not everyone they loved were able to be there, it was perfectly wonderful and absolutely picturesque in the greatest of ways and I'm so thrilled to have been a part of it. I have been a part of this family for 6 years now and I'm never going to let them get rid of me.
Winter Wedding Trends
Summer isn’t the only beautiful, busy season in Lake Tahoe. It’s a peak destination for avid winter sports athletes and for those who just come for the views. In the past, it’s started snowing as early as September, so by the time winter officially rolls around, everything is covered in the most picturesque blanket of snow. There’s something special about winter weddings in Tahoe, and every year, I look forward to the new trends and spins that winter couples add to their day.
Lake Tahoe Boat Elopement | Julieanne + Mark
Since Julieanne and Mark had originally wanted to get married on a boat, they decided that if they were going to elope, it should absolutely also be on a boat! Julieanne and Mark were married as the sun was setting behind the ridge in Emerald Bay, on the shores of Vikingsholm Castle in an intimate Lake Tahoe boat elopement thanks to Lake Tahoe Boat Rides. Captain Steve and I worked together to create a great experience for the couple and we nailed the timing and the light!
Gifting Prints for the Holidays
You don’t have to be the Leslie Knope of gift giving to nail it this holiday season. Photo prints are arguably the easiest and most affordable gifts to give, especially for the people who have it all. Gifting prints for the holidays should ease your stress and I'm here to make it extra easy on you and tell you how to choose the best photos to gift and some of my favorite places to buy them.
Tahoe Backyard Micro Wedding | Kierney + Will
When Kierney and Will originally planned their wedding, it was going to be a completely relaxed BBQ beach adventure. They wanted games and good times, socializing and tequila. As COVID hit, it became increasingly clear that their wedding dreams were going to be dashed and they completely changed course: calling me out of the blue and deciding to elope at the county clerk's office. It was the perfect afternoon, in my opinion: beers, bikes, and beach champagne. When they finally celebrated they did so with a private backyard Tahoe micro wedding and it was absolutely perfect in every way.
How to pick the best photo prints (and what to do with them)
I believe that EVERYONE should print their photos! Whether you’re looking at a digital gallery I just sent your way or through your phone’s neverending camera roll, these three tips will help you choose the best photos to print and give you options for how to display them.
