Yes, having employee headshots that contribute to a cohesive digital presence is amazing, but your employees are probably just stoked to be getting a new LinkedIn profile picture. Give them a heads-up about what kind of session we’ve discussed. In the past, they may have had a heavily corporate headshot experience, sitting in front of a green screen with their chin tucked just-so. Hot take: Corporate headshots don’t have to be so...corporate and especially not when I'm involved! Here's how to help your employees prepare for their headshot session.
While I pride myself on making our sessions easy-going and fun, it’s also important that you do some self-love legwork before your session. Why? I may take incredible photos and make you look really good but I'm not magic: I can’t make you love yourself. I can't help someone like their photos when they are being extra critical of the way they look. If you want to attract your ideal customers, you need great photos to market yourself! Sugared Salon in South Lake Tahoe was interested in a suite of images that allows them to represent their business authentically in a way that captures the essence of the salon. It is always more challenging, creatively speaking, to bring a new idea to fruition, as we recently did with this ad project for the Austin based office of Sensory Interactive, a design firm that designs and builds high-profile projects that range from master planning, to digital urban experiences, interactive exhibits, large format digital art, sports arena displays and urban spectacles such as those found in Las Vegas and Times Square. As a photographer, I would always rather photograph in new places than in the same locations repeatedly - it is more creatively inspiring to seek out inspiring backgrounds than to return to the same old standbys as you do when returning to the same locations again and again. These challenges force you to trust in your experience, knowledge and ability to pull off a successful shoot. I’ve worked on editorial and commercial photoshoots for local, international, small, and large businesses for close to ten years now. I take photos that authentically represent businesses: photos you see on websites, in magazines, emails, ads, marketing brochures, and more. Investing in headshot and branding photos is a commitment to showing off your business in a cohesive and professional way, even if your role or company is laid back.
